TransStar Europe - A European literary and translation project. transstar-europa.com
Authors: Przemek Zajfert and participants of the international literary translator project "TransStar Europa" for the project "Translation cube: Six Pages of European Literature and Translation".
The shimmering title The 7th day refers to a participatory art project by Przemek Zajfert, a light and photo artist born in Poland and living in Stuttgart. The basis for this is a simple photographic technique without a laboratory: Camera Obscura, the pinhole camera, a box with a small hole and light-sensitive paper on the inside, which makes it possible to take photographs without any special technology. It is based on Nicéphore Niépce's invention of photography. Armed with pinhole cameras, people from all over the world took part in Zajfert's The 7th day. They bought his camera box, created a photography and sent it back to him. The principle of long-time exposure - seven days under normal lighting conditions - makes stillness clearly visible in the photos, while humans or animals become invisible spirits. Views of places, objects and situations find their modified and translated impression on the photographic paper and experience a new aesthetic dimension in overlapping time layers. The result is a freely accessible online photo archive with pinhole camera photographies from all over the world. The exhibition in Ljubljana shows photographies of the participants of the international literary translator project TransStar Europa for the project Translation Cubes: Six pages of European literature and translation. These participants were equipped with their own pinhole camera and searched for places of translation, which they found and recorded. Przemek Zajfert has also been travelling and photographing with the pinhole camera for many years. His large digital archive documents his stations, city views and other hole camera projects he has initiated. This project was support by the European Commission.
