One Image per Year – Time Made Visible
Inspired by the pinhole camera technique from The 7th Day project, this special Camera Obscura has been successfully used in a medical practice in Stuttgart for many years. Installed in a fixed location, it continuously captures the surrounding space. Once a year – every January – the exposed negative is removed and sent to us. We scan and develop the image and print the resulting positive. This print is then placed on the wall next to the camera, alongside previous years’ images – creating a unique photographic timeline of the space over time.
Who Is the Framed Camera Obscura For?
This special form of Camera Obscura is designed for anyone interested in long-term processes, analog photography, and visual observation of spaces – all without digital technology. It’s especially suitable for:
- Medical practices, offices, and workspaces that want to capture subtle change over time
- Artists and creatives who experiment with light, time, and space
- Private households, especially living rooms, dining areas, or quiet corners
- Educational settings, helping students understand analog photography and long exposure
- Design and architecture enthusiasts who want to document spatial changes over the years
This camera does not capture people – no portraits or snapshots. Instead, it records furniture, objects, and traces of light, revealing how a space is used and how it subtly transforms. Over the course of a year, it creates a photographic chronicle.
